Many of you may remember we did this several months ago on Twitter and the response was huge! If you could choose any one song for Casey to cover (one we haven’t heard him cover already), what song would you choose? Go ahead and let me know the song and the artist in the comments section below. I’ll then take your choice and put it in the post with an audio or visual to go along with it (I will try to update daily). In this dream concert we’re creating, we’ve already heard all his originals and all the covers YouTube has provided us, now it’s our turn. Casey is taking requests so shout out what you want to hear. This will also be a great way for us to get introduced to new music and artists. Have fun and check back often! **please note, many of you (ahem) have had a hard time sticking to one song…so see comment section for even more videos!** I’ll start….
marieleathem1 - Stranglehold, Ted Nugent ”I don’t think there was a song I listened to more than this one when I was in high school, I just felt the guitar in my gut like I never had before. Would lay on my bed, close my eyes and listen to it over and over. (Well, I’d have to get up and walk over to the record player, lift the arm and reposition the needle. Yeah, it was that long ago). Would love to hear a Casey rendition.”
@meme4CJ – Long Time Gone, Darrell Scott “Well , since I love Bluegrass . I’d like to see Casey pick that Mandolin up again . My choice for him would be Darrell Scott’s Long Time Gone ( best known by the Dixie Chicks ) . I LOVE that song because it has a great message and I think Casey will do justice for that song.”
@sharigeller – Country Feedback, REM “I don’t know if anything can top “Jealous Guy” (although I was over the moon when Casey covered Tony Joe White’s “Polk Salad Annie”). But if he ever covered some James Taylor or Jackson Browne, that would be cool. Oh, and REM, of course.”
Debra James – Medicine Man, Johnny Winter “Casey and I always loved “Medicine Man” by Johnny Winter (another phenomenal Texas born guitarist). Strange that he never played it! It’s off the CD “Let Me In”. His voice is gruff but Casey could easily sing this & do it well. Close your eyes & listen to Johnny’s incredible slide playing & you will think it’s Casey. Man could he rip this up. I’m mean SHRED it.”

Boudica – Where Did You Sleep Last Night, Nirvana “I have said it about a hundred times (sorry to repeat myself). But really, really want Casey to cover “Where Did You Sleep Last Night”. I think he is one of the only ones who would be able to show a bit of the emotional connection to the song like Kurt Cobain did, and of course the song is actually an old delta blues song. Other then that, “The Man Who Sold the World” and “Lightning Crashes”. This might sound a bit strange but I would also like to see Casey do “Nothing Else Matters” and “Whiskey In a Jar” from Metallica. I think it would be interesting to see him put his own stamp on those songs.” **all Boudica’s picks are in her comment below**
Cecilann – Always on My Mind, Elvis Presley

DrewJ (deej_ceej) -“We’re not restricted to ONE song, are we? I thought long and hard enough (5 minutes tops) on what I’ve always wanted to hear Casey cover. Mine in no consecutive order: “Black” by Pearl Jam. Listen intently to Vedder’s vocals & tell me you don’t hear a wee of Casey’s vocal character here. “Lazy” by Deep Purple. I remember reading this is what he sang on earlier rounds
of Idol audition. I can envision Billy, Casey and Nolan jamming wickedly to the
keyboard, bass and lead guitar pieces here. “Kashmir” by Led Zeppelin. Anyone who can level Jimmy Page’s guitar work is already a genius in his own right. And I’ll say it again – Casey James is Robert Plant’s long lost son.”

Ana Lucia Perfoncio – Have a Little Faith in Me, Jewel “For me, the funny thing is that some have already been mentioned here… (James Taylor, Eric Clapton), and with it we realized that Casey capable of extreme musical versatility! Waternymf – Seven Spanish Angels, Willie Nelson “Oh, how fun!

. Also, Leon Russell’s, “ A Hard Rain’s a Gonna Fall”

But I have changed my mind. ‘China Grove’ by the Dobbie Brothers is a favourite of mine and would be good musically for all the band members. But if I just want to listen to Casey’s clear beautiful voice and his acoustic guitar, my favourite cover for Casey is ‘Dust in the Wind’ by
Kansas.”
Carolyn – Desperado, The Eagles “Okay – my first one is from the ancient past – but it’s always been one of my favs -from one of my favorite bands of all time – The Eagles. I think Casey’s whiskey voice would do very well with this and the message is right up his

‘Desperado’.”

very emotional song. Elvis said it was “the saddest song he ever heard” I say
Casey must sing this!!!!!”

HelenKC – The First Cut is the Deepest, Cat Stevens “I would love to hear Casey cover Cat Steven’s The First Cut is the Deepest.”
Awesome post!
My choice for him would be Darrell Scott’s Long Time Gone ( best known by the Dixie Chicks ) . I LOVE that song because it has a great message and I think Casey will do justice for that song
Well , since I love Bluegrass . I’d like to see Casey pick that Mandolin up again .
Darrell Scotts’ version : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oQ0Ra_ubK10
and Dixie Chicks’ version : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f4NTn3Pn05A
Yeah! I know that would be un-popular . but I just love it by Casey
ANYTHING bluegrass too! Great idea Meme! Casey can do it all.
Indeed! thanks Momma James .
)
I’d love and hope that there will be a Blugrassy track on his Album . or even Acoustic/Bluegrass EP in the future ( and you’ll be featured in that EP ) , now that would be amazing . ( Yeah! I can dream
I wouldn’t mind seeing Casey with a mandolin again. I really liked the vibe of Mrs. Robertson. I hope Casey does add some mandolin again somewhere. But the only song I know that has a mandolin is Losing my Religion, mind you that properly wouldn’t actually be a bad song for Casey to cover.
I would also LOVE to see the mandolin reappear!
I don’t know if anything can top “Jealous Guy” (although I was over the moon when Casey covered Tony Joe White’s “Polk Salad Annie”). But maybe if he ever covered some James Taylor or Jackson Browne, that would be cool. Oh, and REM.

I honestly think if Casey could cover, Where did you sleep last night, he would top Jealous Guy. The songs does have something similar about them. When Casey sang Jealous Guy it immediately made me think about Nirvana doing Where did you sleep last night, and from there I really wanted him to cover that song.
Boudica,
I love that suggestion!! Same emotion, same intensity. — SG
Casey and I always loved “Medicine Man” by Johnny Winter (another phenomenal Texas born guitarist). Strange that he never played it! It’s off the CD “Let Me In”. His voice is gruff but Casey could easily sing this & do it well. Close your eyes & listen to Johnny’s incredible slide playing & you will think it’s Casey. Man could he rip this up. We’ll find the link Debra! No worries.
Debra, wish’s do come true!

I would love to hear Casey cover “Wonderful Tonight” by Eric Clapton. It is one of my favorite songs. Casey’s guitar skills reminds me of him as well as Stevie Ray Vaughan!!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qwprrAEL9-E
That was one he used to do in his set years ago. I sang back-up.
I’d love to have heard he and you sing it. I also love that song!
Debra, maybe I will still get to hear that someday!! That would be awesome!!
“Always on My Mind”
Cry guitar, cry …
If I EVER heard Casey James play this song, Id be crying too.
He would blow my mind …
AGAIN.
Shelley is trying to kill us.
Sung by Brenda Lee, Elvis, Willie Nelson…………
I have said it about a hundred times (sorry to repeat myself).
But really, really want Casey to cover Where did you sleep last night last day. I think he is one of the only ones who would be able to show a bit of the emotional connection to the song like Kurt Cobain did, and of course the song is actually an old delta blues song. Other then that The man who sold the world, and Lightning crashes. This might sound a bit strange but I would also like to see Casey do Nothing else matters and Whiskey in a jar, from Metallica, I thing it would be interesting to see him put his own stamp on those songs.
Nirvana – Where did you sleep last night:
Nirvana – The man who sold the world
Live – Lightning Crashes
Metallica – Nothing else matters
Metallica – Whiskey in jar
^^^Sorry for my grammar mistakes (it is 4:40 in morning), that is the only excuse I have. Also I didn’t embed the videos so I dont know why they are showing, I only posted the links.
I like your style! How about Metallica’s version of Bob Seger’s “Turn the Page”?
Oh yes! I haven’t even thought about that one! Okay Casey can do that instead of Whiskey in a jar. Lol
Of course I prefer originals, but I would like to hear Casey cover Down on Me by Heart from their Bebe Le Strange record. I think he would do a great job on it. (Though I love Janis Joplin, it’s not the same song as her Down on Me).
Last year on Idol when I saw the list of songs for Inspiration Week, I was thinking I would love to hear Casey sing The Boxer by Simon and Garfunkel. I really liked Lee’s rendition, but would also love the hear Casey perform it. It’s one of my favorite songs.

Sex on Fire by Kings of Leon
Yes, yes, yes! This I would love to see.
hands down: Jonny Lang “Breakin’ Me”
“Breakin’ Me” video
I think Casey would do a great job on So Afraid by Fleetwood Mac too. Would love to hear him jam on the guitar at the end of that song.
Oh my gosh, that is a great one! I forgot about that one, and Lyndsey Buckingham is one of Casey’s favorite guitarists. I can totally hear him jamming on the guitar on that one. I think he would sing it well too.
I also agree with Bob Seger “Turn thePage, but Metallica’s version. Been biking to this forever….
Jonny Lange is too Good- “Lie to Me” totally Casey!

This might be a bit random but i have always wondered what Casey would do with “Smooth” By Santana and Rob Thomas. Its got cool vocals and amazing guitar!
I’d love to hear Casey do his version of Nickelback-If Today Was Your Last Day. I had a great message that echoes Caseys phylsophy on life and I think he could really do this song justice.
Nickelback is not popular these days, but I think it would be very amusing if Casey did something like I wanna be a rockstar. It is so the opposite of Shine your shoes, but Casey would properly sing it well.
I would also love to see Casey do SRV’s “Pride And Joy” and also Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Simple Man”.
Marie, You are my soul twin with “Stranglehold ” by Ted Nugent. It would be amazing to hear Casey cover it. Also I have always loved “I’m No Angel” by Gregg Allman Not the guitqr showcase of Stranglehold but I would love to hear him sing it.

Prime Circle – She always gets what she wants
After marvelling at Casey’s version of Jealous Guy, I’d like to see what Casey would do with To Make You Feel My Love. Perhaps an acoustic version. Its one of my favorite songs. http://youtu.be/qZPc3aQgENo (written by Bob Dylan, cover by Kris Allen)
I love this idea!
If Casey James went to see these videos, I think he’ll have a hard time choosing! Are all very good!
For me, the funny thing is that some have already been mentioned here… (James Taylor, Eric Clapton), and with it we realized that Casey capable of extreme musical versatility!
I’d love to see Casey playing and singing Jewel – Have A Little Faith In Me – beautiful music and lyrics exceptionally, it would be interesting to hear the voice of Casey!
Thanks Shari, for the brilliant idea!
Jewel – Have A Little Faith In Me http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Jg0YzoTMaI
Oh, how fun!
Maybe Willie Nelson’s, Seven Spanish Angels:
Gotta have some blues, so maybe Jimi Hendrix’s Voodoo Chile Blues:
Also, Leon Russell’s A Hard Rain’s a Gonna Fall:
Adele – Rolling in the deep. There are so many versions of this song.. and some are great.
I think it would amazing to hear it in Casey’s voice and an acoustic guitar.
Adele – Rolling in the deep. There are so many versions of this song.. and some are great.

This post is great, really enjoying listening to everyones favourite cover song choices for Casey. Thanks Marie Leathem.
In previous posts I said I would like to hear Casey sing ‘Blue on Black’ by The Kenny Wayne Sheperd Band. But I have changed my mind.
‘China Grove’ by the Dobbie Brothers is a favourite of mine and would be good musically for all the band members.
But if I just want to listen to Caseys clear beautiful voice and his acoustic guitar, my favourite cover for Casey is ‘DUST IN THE WIND’ by Kanas
Those who know me are aware Im an R&B freak but thought I’d add some more “country” to the mix:)
Leon Russell is more Louisiana-style blues, IMO, so may not appeal to all. He has done cool stuff and TONS of features with mega-stars. In the past he was AKA Hank Wilson and paired up on an album with Willie Nelson,
Thanks so much, Shari! Fun to see such diverse viewpoints, but all Casey-worthy:)
Wow! So much good, good music – one of the things I love about CJ’s fans is the vast breadth of music knowledge they have. Thru Casey himself and now his fans, I’m constantly getting exposed to new great music. Thanks everyone for all these good tunes!
Okay – my first one is from the ancient past – but it’s always been one of my favs -from one of my favorite bands of all time – The Eagles. I think Casey’s whiskey voice would do very well with this and the message is right up his alley. I’d also like to see guitar instead of piano in the instrumental. So… “Desperado”
Then I gotta pick an Eddie Vedder tune ’cause the first time I really plugged into Casey was when his voice quivered and I went – what the hell? It’s my Eddie! LOL – I picked this particular vid of the song – ah, ’cause Mr. Depp is in it.
Good looking men singing good music. Can’t get much better than that on a Sunday morn. “Society”
Okay… okay… just a few more …
My Mr. Blues – Amos Lee. This is an older one but one that’s got a funky vibe that Casey has in some of his tunes. “Give It Up”
And last two old country tunes. My grandpa loved country and these are two that I heard tons of times. Hank Williams Sr – “Blue Love” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TXjXzIjQm0Y
And Pasty Cline’s “Crazy” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K-wJNpWgss8
Ah… Johnny Depp, Eddie Vedder, Amos Lee, Casey James. I’m ready to die when all these 4 amazing men jam in one night.
As far as Amos, I’d like Casey to cover “Arms of a Woman”. Amos got me straight to my heart when I heard this song. I heart your list Carolyn
!!!
Arms of a Woman is my all-time favorite Amos song, DrewJ! But I thought maybe I should pick a more upbeat tune – since I was breaking the rules and picking more than one. Ahem.
Clearly we are on the same wave length. I flove Casey – but I flove his fans just as much. They are a class act and have great taste.
Anything from Clapton’s “Unplugged” album, but especially the stripped down acoustic version of “Layla”. OMG.
Also, Don Henly’s “Heart of the Matter”…one of my all time favorites
“Wasted Time” by The Eagles, another favorite
“Best of My Love” by The Eagles, my absolute favorite Eagles’ song.
Gotta stop now or I’ll be in tears all day long!
I kissed my very first “boyfriend” when I was 12 listening to “Best of my Love”. LOL
Sad song. Kurt Cobain did change the chords and put his stamp on “In The Pines” or “My Girl” or “Where Did You Sleep Last Night” whatever title you choose give it as all have been used. Have listened to so many versions of this song since I was a child, and I would love to hear a Casey version. However, watching the Kurt Cobain version just makes me cry. Such a beautiful man, a troubled man whose life was cut so short.
Casey on the other hand, is a well grounded, upbeat normal guy. Would love to see how he would handle this song.
I’d give the world to hear a Crossroads version similar to this one, not like Clapton’s. This is more Casey……
Please give this one a listen and see if you don’t think Casey wouldn’t blow it out of the water.
Forgot to add, the artist is Jesseblues, with The Mojo Express. He is in Germany and a great blues player.
I would love to hear Casey’s version of “I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry” ……I know, I know……I’ve been saying that since ……forever ago.
I can just imagine him singing this – just him & his acoustic guitar…….It is a very emotional song. Elvis said it was “the saddest song he ever heard” I say Casey must sing this!!!!!
I’d like to hear Casey do something soulful and spiritual by the Impressions. My favorite is “I’m So Proud.”
“People Get Ready” by Curtis Mayfield is a good soulful and spiritual spiritual song also.
Late to the party, as usual, but I’d like Keb Mo’s Shave Yo Legs:
ZZ Top’s Hot, Blue and Righteous:
and Shine by Collective Soul:
or better yet Dolly Parton’s bluegrass version
Or whatever else he wants to sing. He’s never disappointed me.
I would love to hear Casey of a cover of Stevie Ray Vaughn’s Pride & Joy. I wish he could have done it on Idol last year because I know he would have knocked it out the park! And I would probably melt into a puddle of goo if he sang Bad Company’s Ready for Love! Anything Bob Segar he would soung great covering too. So many great choices here! I don’t know if Casey reads this stuff but it would definitely give him something to ponder. Anyway, we all love Casey to pieces and love whatever he chooses to sing!
I would love to hear Casey cover “Half Of My Heart” by John Mayer. I think it would fit him very well.
Me again! I think Casey James very versatile! I think he would play the guitar well with this beautiful music! Mark Knopfler (Dire Straits) – Brothers in Arms —>
What could be better than Casey James and one of the most beautiful soul songs ever written: “These Arms of Mine” by Otis Redding. It’s an achingly beautiful song and I would love to hear Casey put his heart and soul and his fantastic phrasing into it.
I have heard Casey do a lot of covers over the years, but feel his cover of “Voodoo Child”. Casey can rock any Stevie Ray song also. He does a great “Pride and Joy” also.
And no one thought of having their video camera running back then?
La Grange by ZZ Top. It can show off Casey’s mean guitar skills, represent fellow Texas artists, and get the crowd movin!
I originally thought about how I’d love to hear Casey cover Tab Beniot’s version of ‘Put A Spell On You’, but when I went to look it up on YouTube I was reminded of a song I heard Tab play earlier this year, called ‘Dirty Dishes’. So my one pick is : http://youtu.be/5xoI8jTNlLM
I thought These Arms of Mine would be a great one too! Also Jimi Hendrix version Red House, I’d love to hear Casey showcase on that one. Seriously.
I’m really late to this party so a lot of my choices are already here (great minds!) but I would absolutely love to hear Casey do “Whipping Post” by The Allman Brothers and ANYTHING by ZZTop but I’ll choose “Waiting for the Bus” from Tres Hombres. Also, wouldn’t we all love to hear his cover of “I’m Leavin’” by Doyle Bramhall II? OK, I’ll stop now.
I would love to hear Casey cover Cat Steven’s The First Cut is the Deepest.
Bryan Adams – Have You Ever Really Loved A Woman !!!

It’s very suitable for Casey’s voice, guitar and personality !!!
One of the most beautiful songs in the world for the coolest musician ever!!!
Lol Is that a joke? Casey already did that one more then 50 times!
Hey Casey, let’s go country. Here are some beautiful songs from one of my favorite legendary singers ——- John Denver. His music reminds me a lot of you in so many ways. He sang from his heart and had so much talent, as you do. Here are just a few of my favorites: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R1qzzLvEUV8&feature=related

Very very late to the party. It looks like there are some great suggestions in this thread and many music lovers. Awesome!
I’d like to see Casey’s take on Cold, Cold Feeling from Albert Collins
They might be another version too in live concert with Gary moore.
